OCT 26, 2004, PETALUMA, Calif.—Calix
today announced that president and CEO Carl Russo has been appointed to the
United States Telecom Association (USTA) Board of Directors. USTA represents
more than 1,200 telecom service providers of all sizes and has been at the
forefront of positive change within the telecom industry for over a century.
The USTA Board of Directors, which is made up of key industry executives from
service providers and equipment suppliers, is responsible for setting the
agenda for the USTA's legal, regulatory, and business development strategy on
an annual basis.
"USTA brings together leaders from the most
innovative companies in the telecom sector to advocate on behalf of the diverse
communications industry," said Walter B. McCormick, Jr., President and CEO of
the United States Telecom Association. "With his powerful vision for Calix and
clear insight into the future for telecom, Carl Russo is a strong addition to
USTA's Board."
USTA is the premier trade association representing service
providers and suppliers for the telecom industry. USTA's 1,200 member companies
offer a wide range of services, including local exchange, long distance,
wireless, Internet access, and IP video entertainment.
"The USTA has been an important voice for telecom service
providers from both a regulatory and a business development standpoint," Russo
said. "As the competitive environment clarifies, it is becoming increasingly
critical that wireline service providers have the regulatory freedom and
technical ability to respond quickly with IPTV and VOIP offerings over their
existing copper and emerging fiber infrastructures."
Calix provides advanced, IP-based telecom solutions to over
130 USTA member companies, enabling them to deliver a wide range of
packet-based voice, data, and video services to their business and residential
customers over fiber and copper access media.
